BowFlex SelectTech 552
Imagine buying and storing 15 sets of dumbbells and having a place to store them. And if you buy a set are you really going to use the 2.5 or 5lb. weights? Maybe you are recovering from an injury so you never say never. Or you can buy them separately and pay separate shipping for each pair you buy. But that is still four extra dumbbells you have to rack and store in your house, garage or backyard. What of you can reduce 15 sets of dumbbells into one pair? Is that a good idea? Of course it is. I introduce to you the BowFlex SelectTech 552.
The BowFlex 552 adjusts one pair of dumbbells and creates 15 pairs of dumbbells. You can create a set of 5lb up to a set of 52.5lb dumbbells in increments of 2.5lbs. Allows you to switch your weights easily and quickly. You change the weight by turning a dial. Pretty cool, huh?
Download the BowFlex Select Tech app and follow a BowFlex trainer through custom designed workouts. The Select Tech app is available on iTunes and Google Play. Each dumbbell comes with a storage tray for storage.
The only issue is that these are only available from other sellers renewed or near new condition. Otherwise they are temporarily out of stock. If you are in the market for a set of these, just wait until new inventory arrives. I will broadcast it here on my website. I am also waiting for an email from BowFlex to get lower pricing. Be patient please.
BowFlex SelectTech 1090
The BowFlex SelectTech 1090. In my strength training days I would have loved a pair of these. These adjustable dumbbells operate just like the the SelectTech 552 but the main difference is that these adjust the weight from 10lbs. to 90lbs….Yup.
Now that’s some weight. And these will replace 17 sets of dumbbells. These adjust in increments of 5lbs. Can you imagine a rack of of dumbbells from 10lbs. to 90lbs. in 5lb. increments? That would be one big rack of dumbbells. With these you reduce the space you have to dedicate to store these badboys , thus reducing the footprint you need…Let’s think about this. 17 sets of dumbbells and a rack or just one set of dumbbells.
Before I forget with the 552 and the 1090 a rack is available to purchase so that you can heft these weights from an elevated position instead of the floor. Click here to see the rack.
These are available through resellers on Amazon as new to nearly used condition. I will broadcast when new inventory is available. I am looking to directly sell from BowFlex. Please be patient.

Power Block Elite EXP
The PowerBlock Elite EXP operates on the same premise as the BowFlex the only difference is the form factor. Where the BowFlex use the familiar form of round plates at the ends of the bar, the PowerBlock uses a rectangular/square form with a stackable weights in a frame.
The BowFlex takes the place of multiple pairs of dumbbells the same goes for the PowerBlock. The weight increments are very similar to the 552 this one goes from 5lbs. to 50lbs. per hand. The PowerBlock has the ability to expand by inserting chrome rods in to the core of the PowerBlock expanding its weight to 70-90lbs. per hand. Check out the video to see how it works. If I were in the market to choose a adjustable dumbbell set I think I would choose these. But because of the weight these are also quite pricey to ship.
As a Prime member I have ordered dumbbells from Amazon which are delivered free to Prime members. I always thought that it was a great deal to buy weights from Amazon and have them ship it free as to ship a 40lb. or 50lb. package at no charge is a profit killer. But I think they may have caught on and now depend on resellers to sell weights and charge for shipping or include a shipping charge in the selling price. Thus going around their obligation to ship heavy items for free.
Can you imagine selling and shipping two 20lb. dumbbells? That’s 40lbs. that they have to ship free? I think they needed a legal work around to get around the free 2-day shipping promise they made to Prime members. That’s just my take on the reseller situation for shipping workout weights.
The NordicTrack Select A Weight dumbbell uses a familiar form as a traditional dumbbell much as the BowFlex 552 and 1090 systems. The weight adjustment looks much simpler to use rather than the BowFlex and the PowerBlock as the NordicTrack uses a slider mechanism to adjust the weight that you choose from 10 – 55lbs. and promises a smooth weight selection transition.
Crafted from solid steel NordicTrack claims these to be a very durable set of adjustable dumbbells to last you years to come and as the other weight systems showcased these also offer a small footprint compared to 15 pairs of dumbbells. And each dumbbell comes with a molded storage tray to store them away.
The only thing that concerns me is the lack of ratings on this. It’s as if nobody has bought these so I am not really sure how well these are put together. The BowFlex and PowerBlock dumbbells have at least a 4-star rating. I’ll just have to keep an eye on these.
